SaaS

Software as a Service (SaaS) can be defined as software that is deployed as a hosted service and accessed over the internet. SaaS is often associated with an Application Service Provider (ASP) such as Ubiquia, Inc. ASP's began providing these services in the late 1990's offering "shrink wrapped" software accessed using the Internet. SaaS applications offer centralization using a single-instance, multi-tenant architecture. Today's SaaS offers feature-rich applications comparable to on-site applications. Popular examples of SaaS include Google's Google Docs, Intuit's Quickbooks Online, and Salesforce.com's CRM solutions.

Access to the Internet is pervasive in the United States and Europe. Speed and connection quality are no longer an issue. Therefore SaaS solutions have become a viable and inexpensive means for companies to deploy mission critical applications
