Janam Technologies has just released their latest rugged handheld, the XT2, and Zenventory got the opportunity to try it out and get it certified with our software. Zenventory’s mobile application specializes in mobilizing inventory management and order fulfillment for small to medium-sized companies. In addition to being available on all consumer Android devices, experience Zen Mobile on a rugged touch computer like the Janam XT2.
The XT2 has a 5 inch high definition 720×1280 screen that provides the maximum sharpness while also adjusting to varying lighting situations, making it easy to see outdoors or in the warehouse. The screen is also dust and water proof thanks to its IP67 sealing and Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It can handle multiple 5 foot drops onto concrete and can be fully submerged in up to 3 feet of water. So, despite its smartphone stylings, the XT2 is a lot tougher than it looks. At 6.1 by 3.2 inches and only an inch thick, it can easily fit in a pocket, making carrying it around convenient. It includes a hand strap and a stylus that makes it perfect for capturing signatures or precision typing and navigation.
It runs on Android 5.x Lollipop making it compatible for running your Zen Mobile application. Its Qualcomm “Snapdragon” dual-core processor running at 1.2 GHz keeps things fast. And thanks to its Google certification, you can download Zen Mobile directly to your device from the Google Play store, free for all Zenventory users. Utilize the 8MP rear camera for Zenventory’s barcode image capture application or enjoy the speedy scanning of the industrial-grade 1D/2D barcode scanner that scans barcodes from up to 2 feet away. It also has a front-facing 2MP camera that can be used for video calls. The XT2 has dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi to connect to your warehouse’s wireless internet to operate Zen Mobile, keeping you inventory levels updated in real time. It also includes Bluetooth and NFC/RFID reading capabilities to improve inventory management and traceability operations. Make calls on the XT2 with the mobile broadband functions of 4G LTE and utilize the Qualcomm IZAT for GPS homing technology.
So what do we like about the Janam XT2? It’s easy to set up and easier to use. If you were using Zenventory on your smartphone originally, consider this an upgrade. With Android Lollipop you get improved security features like auto encryption, smart lock, multiple user accounts, and enhanced auditing and monitoring. The volume goes up quite loud for when you’re working in noisy environments and you don’t have to worry about supplementing your battery life as it can get you through a full day of work and then some. And speaking of the battery, power users will like that they can easily remove the battery from the device and also reveal a user-accessible microSDHC card slot. The XT2 also has a unique feature; in addition to its hard key navigation on the bottom, it includes a programmable key to further customize the user’s experience. On the other side, we weren’t thrilled about how cumbersome it is to connect to a PC as you have to screw the adapter into the device. And while it is convenient, there is a concern about having Google Play so easily accessible as it may encourage users to download superfluous games or apps.
All in all, the Janam XT2 is a competent performer its price point and ease of use makes it an attractive choice for any small and medium sized business looking to utilize and manage smartphone style Android handhelds to continue running Zen Mobile and managing inventory in their warehouse.
