UPS Mail Innovations notified its customers on Friday, May 2nd, that rates would increase on Monday, May 5th.
Yes, you heard that right. UPS Mail Innovations customers were given just a few days to prepare for the upcoming price increase.
Time is of the essence. So, let's explore these changes and their implications.
Understanding the connection between UPS Mail Innovations & USPS
Let's talk about how UPS Mail Innovations and the United States Postal Service works together.
You see, Mail Innovations is a joint venture between these two shipping giants that streamlines mail operations, specifically designed to handle mail and small package deliveries efficiently.
About the UPS Mail Innovations rate hike
So, what's driving the price increase? Well, UPS Mail Innovations is raising its prices in response to rate changes from the U.S. Postal Service.
In a letter to customers dated May 1st, the company stated that “to ensure quality service for customers, UPS Mail Innovations has developed and introduced an enhanced mail solution leveraging third-party vendors.” Later on, the letter also mentioned that “to align our pricing with the cost to serve, some account-specific adjustments are necessary.”
The impact has been swift with some customers seeing a 40% rate increase – with only a couple days to prepare.
Why is this price increase such a bummer?
The United States Postal Service has been positioned as the go-to shipping solution for businesses sending packages under one pound, making it the top choice for companies specializing in lightweight shipments.
